New York subway as a musical instrument in HTML5 →
A great project by interactive designer Alexander Chen where newmedia meets a greatidea. Stuff like this always makes me proud of my unfilled vision (can you be proud of something unfilled?), where I were no designer turtled my comfort zones, but just a smart creative person, doing brilliant things, no matter what media or tech I used.
At www.mta.me, Conductor turns the New York subway system...

Egypt: "Velvet" Revolution Now Live →
In case you want to keep yourself updated, Al Jazeera has a bunch of commentators and a lot of coverage.
This situation kinda reminds me of The Wall and what was happening here in Czech Republic. But will the revolution in Egypt be as Velvet as in 1989?
Or will it end with blood and sand?

BESIP logo redesign fail
A bit of local design news for you. BESIP is an authority for road safety, part of the Department of Transport in Czech republic. The new management (Ondřej Valenta) decided to throw away the “old” logo, which has served for 44 years, and come with something MODERN, DYNAMIC, JUICY etc. to communicate better.
“We redesign the old look to a new, modern logo of transport...

NEXT FESTIVAL 2010 Bratislava
Since this was my first time on NEXT festival, forget my being so enthusiastic. But this is really a great feat from where I come from. Althought quite extraordinary gigs are thrown here and there, NEXT is a continuous, three-day flow of “marginal” music. And you really DO get things in context. I mean you can compare various experimental approaches, see how the people do it and touch...

This is a piece in the puzzle of a big topic I’m thinking about a lot of … ehm, time. Human perception of time. Is there really anything more interesting? Well, you may never know, since you have no time to worry about such things.
Procrastination is either a buzzword, and a really heavy issue. Boy I really know what I’m talking about. And thanks to the effects of internet...

Another Hacker’s Laptop, Cellphones Searched at... →
One swallow doesn’t make a summer, but I’m expecting more stories like this to come.
A well-known and respected computer-security researcher was detained for several hours Wednesday night by border agents who searched his laptop and cellphones before returning them to him.

The Anonymous Manifesto
Greetings, n00bs! I come in peace, because I am forever alone. I am from the Internet.
Yes, I am one of those infamous /b/tards that everyone keeps hearing about. I’m the scourge of the Internet. I troll. I drink Mountain Dew by the Gallon. I am Anon.
Ladies and gentlemen, I am taking over. Since Al Gore invented that great series of tubes that is the interblag, we, the misanthropes of the...

Sir, There's a Camera in Your Head
A New York University photography professor is going one further by implanting a camera in the back of his head.|
Oh snap! I’ve been overtaken again! This happens when you put your ideas on post-it notes and then lose them in the fluff of your messy working space.
For one year, Mr. Bilal’s camera will take still pictures at one-minute intervals, then feed the photos to monitors...

Interactive Kinect Puppet Prototype
This. Changes. Everything. of the Day: Emily Gobeille and Theo Watson’s Xbox Kinect hack allows them to manipulate an animated “shadow puppet,” employing skeleton tracking to determine “where the shoulder, elbow, and wrist is, using it to control the movement and posture of the giant funky bird.”

Noko Jeans / jeans from North Korea
I always get amazed by other people’s determination. Especially by those, who aim higher than others could ever imagine. Bless them. And damn all of us, indecisive, lazy and verified-driven.
Working with a North Korean company – working with North Korea – raises many questions. This is a good thing; it should. One of the most common questions we receive...

Found through tvtropes one day.
Roger and Ann needed to meet Sergey in San Francisco.
“Should we take a train, or a steamship, or a plane?” asked Ann.
“Trains are too slow, and the trip by steamship around South America would take months,” replied Roger. “We’ll take a plane.”
He logged onto the central network using his personal computer, and waited while the system verified his identity....

Wicked! The spit in the face of all the web design usability prophets. Everything is so wrong so it turns out amazing. This multi-talented agency actually puts up an into-your-face multimedia manifesto.
Ten years ago, I wanted to have a website like this. Through the years, naturally, I embraced all the reasonable aspects of designing interfaces, proven UX concepts, accesibility standards, etc....

Four Lions as both terrorists farce and a class in...
Chris Morris did it again. I’ve just seen the most conteporary shload of satire. I was missing this for a long time. While enjoying the narrative, I also wondered how he worked out the motivation. He took one of the hottest topics and comedy taboos, “switched your brain with your heart” and turned it a highly daring (and for some most disturbing) piece of prejudicefucker. And it...

Journalism Warning Labels [CZECH]
There are people who act in the way you think. That’s what Tom Scott did with his Journalism Warning Labels. This spot-on needs to be translated for use with local meda, so we did.
Download the czech version.
It seems a bit strange to me that the media carefully warn about and label any content that involves sex, violence or strong language — but there’s no similar labelling system for, say,...
